Grupo Carinsa, with an Industrial Doctorate carried out, patents chewing gum that changes its taste.

The Carinsa Group, dedicated to the manufacture of aromas and additives for the food sector, has patented a chewing gum with twotastes, in which both appear sequentially for the first time, that is, first one and then the other, and which is known as dual chewing gum.

It has been three years of work of the company's R+D+I team, based in Sant Quirze del Vallès (Barcelona), so that "progressively while chewing it changes its taste", explained the director of this department of the confectionery division, Àngel Palomes, to Europa Press.

For the time being, work is being done to mix two flavours, "a more fruity first and a second mint, because it leaves the mouth impregnated for longer," Palomes explained, although he clarified that the product can have several combinations of aromas, but the compost must be perfected.

This sequential presence of tastes has been achieved thanks to the application of pharmacy techniques for food and is the result of an agreement with the University of Barcelona (UB) to incorporate a team from the Faculty of Pharmacy, through the Industrial Doctorates program.

The objective of the vallesan company is that in 2020 the product will be launched on the market, as stated by the CEO of Carinsa, Vanesa Martínez, and admitted that "big brands" have been interested in it, and stressed that manufacturing will not involve any investment.

Health benefits

Dual chewing gum also has a "preventive" aspect related on the one hand to the mouth and, on the other, to the identification of diseases, as well as exploring new tastes and moderating appetite, although they are still projects.

Martínez said that they have carried out clinical trials in hospitals such as La Paz in Madrid, Vall d'Hebron and Trias i Pujol, both in Barcelona, which have shown that "there is a rapid recovery" after suffering any pathology.

Regarding preventive detection in oral cases, Palomes specified that he "wants to alleviate dental erosion" and warned that it is a long-term project, with the aim of making it another product to be prescribed by dentists in the future.
