The Department of Research and Universities allocates nearly 6 million euros to the call for Industrial Doctorates to carry out research training in a company

The Industrial Doctorates community continued to grow in 2023 with the participation for the first time of 71 new researchers as thesis supervisors and 34 new research groups

Predoctoral researchers in the Catalan knowledge system can now apply for grants from the Industrial Doctorates Plan promoted by the Department of Research and Universities, which in this 2024 call allocates nearly 6 million euros (5,782,800 euros) and maintains the 27% increase in direct aid received by doctoral students. The Industrial Doctorates Plan offers predoctoral researchers the possibility of doing research training in a company or institution, in collaboration with a university or research centre, where they develop a project that will end up being the object of the doctoral thesis.

The objectives of this call are, among others, to increase the international visibility of the program and, for this reason, the economic incentive is maintained for beneficiary entities that promote the obtaining of the international mention of doctoral theses. This year, they also want to promote projects in the field of social sciences, arts and humanities, as well as encourage the implementation of projects by departments and entities of the public sector. In addition, it wants to increase the participation of companies and institutions, in addition to establishing links with business organizations to promote strategic alliances, strengthening the Catalan industrial innovation and research ecosystem.

The general deadline for applying for an Industrial Doctorates 2024 grant will be open until 10 December and applications must be made from the Virtual Procedures Office. During the year, there are different partial application deadlines, the first of which will end on April 16 and will be resolved in the first half of June. The following deadlines for applications are set in June, October and December.
