GoodGut, with two industrial doctorate projects, develops technological solutions based on microbiota to obtain an accurate and reliable diagnosis

Mariona Serra-Pagès (Figueres, 1984) is CEO and co-founder of GoodGut, a company to find solutions and prevent digestive diseases, especially chronic ones. The company GoodGut, located in the Science and Technology Park of the University of Girona, was founded by Mariona Serra Pagès, Xavier Aldeguer, Jesús Garcia-Gil and Jaume Amat in 2014 as a spin-off of the University of Girona and the Doctor Josep Trueta Biomedical Research Institute of Girona (IDIBGI). It focuses on the development of technological solutions based on intestinal microbiota that allow obtaining an accurate, reliable and economical diagnosis for the health system and improve the quality of life of patients whose digestive health is compromised. In eight years, the biotech company has managed to have three diagnostic products on the market with a presence in more than 79 centers in Spain and three more under development.

GoodGut's talent and know-how, together with Hipra's experience and capacity, should enable it to develop, produce and market innovative diagnostic tests to detect diseases of the digestive system such as colorectal cancer, the first in terms of incidence and mortality in Spain and the third in the world. They will also make it possible to detect other inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis or irritable bowel syndrome, a condition that takes between 1 and 5 years to detect.
