MOBILE COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY 5G

If you have a passion for cars and if you like to work in a dynamic, young and international atmosphere – SEAT is the place to be. We offer a 3-year Doctor Program (PhD) to professionals with training in Telecommunications and a fluent level of Spanish and English for the development of a project within the R & D department at the SEAT Technical Center jointly with the UPC of Barcelona.

WHAT IS THE PROJECT ABOUT?
This project is about the implementation of the new mobile communication technology 5G and its repercussion in the automotive industry. This will enable higher broadband speed and higher throughput in mobile data exchange, influencing innovations like virtual reality, autonomous cars and Smart cities. It is necessary to define the role of the automotive industry as a further actor in this new communication technology and the challenges the connected car will entail.
Therefore, different communication technologies, like 5G, C-V2X and WLANp_802.11p, need to be analysed to compare them including advantages and disadvantages. Over more, circumstances, who influence the speed, range and quality of the communication technology, need to be detected. Finally, a high signal coverage and performance validation owing to 5G shall be guaranteed.
The aim of this project of investigation is to devise a proposal for an innovative use-case for the automotive industry and specifically for SEAT. Due to 5G technology, a hyper-connected society will be created, having a more comprehensive and intelligent integration of LTE technologies, WIFI and mobile devices.

– Definition of new challenges and opportunities within 5G.
– Identification of 5G application opportunities within the automotive industry.
– Analyse of the art of regulation and licensing of spectrum for 5G.
– Examination of the different hardware required for 5G implementation.
– Proposal, testing and validation of the 5G technology.
