Descripció del projecte

At present, the entire manufacturing process of various SEAT and CUPRA models is carried out in Martorell. In addition to the assembly process itself, there are a series of tests conducted on each and every vehicle produced, regardless of the results of different assembly phases or repairs made to it. For this reason, and due to the reduction in production times for the next electric car to be manufactured in Martorell, a solution is needed to reduce these production times by either eliminating or not performing quality check tests at the end of its assembly.

The project called ‘CUSTOMER DRIVEN INLINE QUALITY CHECKS OPTIMIZATION’ aims to reduce or eliminate these tests. In order to determine whether a vehicle needs to undergo a certain quality test or not, the scenarios need to be explored from different angles. With information from production, vehicles, and the field, the following must be considered:

Reducing the number of cars that undergo certain quality tests in the production process – What production process information allows predicting whether a vehicle needs to undergo the test or not? How many cars can safely not pass a test based on production history?
Assessing the impact on the field of reducing certain production tests – How many cars can safely not pass a test based on the impact in customer? What is the economic impact of completely eliminating both tests based on the cost of customer claims?
This project is a joint effort between the ‘Data Management’ department of SEAT:CODE, the ‘Digital Business Development’ department, UPC-BarcelonaTECH, and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.

More specifically, the industrial doctorate student will have the mission to: (1) lead/execute tasks that make data available, (2) analyze which data generated during the production process could enable the improvement of the proposed algorithm, (3) assist/propose/define/develop/test improvements in the algorithm’s design, (4) lead the solution’s design and take charge of adopting the idea along with production and (5) industrialize the solution, among other tasks.
