Descripció del projecte
ACT ORs expertise in delivering solutions is based on math-optimization, artificial intelligence (AI), dynamic simulators and predictive models. Such software technologies are combined with corporate big data, support complex business decisions and systems control. We are living in exciting times. Technology has changed the way we live, and we look at things. This change must also impact the decision-making process inside our companies. To delay the adaption of what we call “analytical-management approach” might have a high cost.
It’s not only the data availability to make the difference but how processes are re-designed or re-invented, how data lead to the best actions and decisions, to a higher risk resilience. This concept is valid for a wide range of contexts and industries, from the optimization of prices to the resource planning, to the optimal design of products, to the early detection of diseases and the optimal-personalized supply of drugs to patients.
The Internet Computing & Systems Optimization (DPCS-ICSO, http://dpsc.uoc.edu) research group at IN3-UOC has been recognized twice in a row as a Consolidated Research Group by the Catalan Government (2017 SGR 111 and 2014 SGR 337), which is the highest ranking in the Catalan research system. The group focuses its research in the following 2 lines:
* Systems Optimization for a Smarter World: developing intelligent algorithms, data analytics, and software solutions for supporting complex
decision-making processes in computational logistics, transportation, production, as well as in computational finance.
* Internet Computing Collaboration Systems: developing, analyzing, and optimizing large-scale, collaborative, and non-dedicated systems over the Internet.
The aforementioned research lines make use of similar analytical methods, algorithms, and software tools from Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Artificial Engineering, and Computer Science.
Therefore, the main goal of this project is to develop new methodologies, based on data analytics, intelligent algorithms, machine learning, and optimization-simulation methods, able to deal with the complex decision-making that modern industries (in different fields) have to face, either at a strategic, tactical, or operational level. This is a challenging task that can only be achieved by keeping an open and interdisciplinary and inter-sectorial approach, as well as an excellent ability to learn and work in a team context.
