Descripció del projecte

The project will focus on the computational study of the aerodynamics and aeroacoustics characteristics of advanced race-car vehicles designed by Qevtech.

The methodology will employ both in-house and commercial software. In collaboration with the academic supervisors, the applicant will develop a state-of-the art immersed boundary method in combination with high-fidelity, low-dissipative scale-resolving approaches (direct or large-eddy simulation + energy-conserving numerical schemes). The resulting methodology will provide the basis for detailed studies of external aerodynamics and aeroacoustics with the inclusion of fluid-structure interaction effects.

Starting from canonical geometries/configurations, which will help to gather the fundamental understanding of the underlying phenomena at play, one of the final objectives of the project is to demonstrate the use of a high-fidelity methodology for a full vehicle. Part of the work will also focus on a comparison between the developed in-house solver and the commercial software. The final part of the project will also include an experimental validation of the computational results. Part of the work will be carried out in collaboration with international research groups.
