
As part of the Exponential Day organized by ACCIÓ, the ten most disruptive companies in Catalonia in 2024 have been highlighted, including Oniria Therapeutics, Magnetika and Cuatrecasas, all participants in the Industrial Doctorate Plan of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The program, which promotes collaboration between the academic and business sectors, promotes applied research and technological innovation, having a significant impact on society and economic development.
Oniria Therapeutics is a spin-off of the Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB) and the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO). Located in the Barcelona Science Park, it is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to precision oncology, fighting against the persistence of cancer, one of the main causes of mortality. Founded in 2021, this spin-off has overcome the difficulties in attracting specialized talent by expanding the search for professionals in the international arena. The company participates with two industrial doctorate projects awarded in 2024 in collaboration with the University of Barcelona (UB): " Modulation of the activity of the epigenetic enzyme tet2 as a novel strategy to overcome cancer persistence " and " Design, synthesis and biophysical characterization of tet2 inhibitors ”. These projects focus on modulating the activity of the epigenetic enzyme TET2 as a strategy to overcome cancer persistence and on the characterization of TET2 inhibitors. Oniria has been highlighted for its innovative research in targeted therapies to eliminate persistent tumor cells, responsible for the progression of cancer to deadly stages.
Magnetika, founded in July 2018 within the Napptilus Tech Lab, aims to innovate in the field of wireless energy transfer between electric vehicles. This company was born from a technology developed by Napptilus Battery Labs, aimed at sharing energy efficiently and safely. Currently, Magnetika offers advanced solutions for wireless energy transfer, adapted to different power levels required by its customers. The company stands out for its ability to integrate advanced technologies and for its collaboration in applied research projects, such as the Industrial Doctorate Plan of the Generalitat de Catalunya, which reinforce its commitment to innovation and sustainability . His industrial PhD project , awarded in 2022, works on the modeling and optimization of wireless power transfer systems. This research seeks to improve the performance of electronic devices, offering innovative solutions for the technology industry.
Cuatrecasas, a prestigious law firm, has also been recognized in this edition of Exponential Day, and has participated in the Industrial Doctorates Plan with two projects awarded in 2013 and 2018. Their projects address issues such as corporate governance of companies in crisis and criminal charges and regulatory compliance in groups of companies.
Exponential Day has focused this year on analyzing the challenges and opportunities of the climate crisis, highlighting sustainable projects with a positive climate impact. The event featured presentations by experts such as Harald Friedl and Iván Bofarull, who emphasized the importance of innovation and business resilience.
