The company, which has six Industrial Doctorate projects, will use this capital injection to accelerate the development of new high-performance active ingredients and consolidate its international expansion. Roka Furadada locates its R&D department in Research Module B of the UAB Research Park.
Roka Furadada, the biotechnology company that locates its R&D department in the UAB Research Park and has six industrial doctorates, has announced the closing of a financing round of 2.3 million euros. Led by O Financial Club (OFC) and with the participation of its current partners, this operation represents a strategic validation of the company's business model, strongly rooted in public-private collaboration and high-level research talent.
Roka Furadada's success cannot be understood without its strong commitment to applied academic research. In an interview with the Industrial Doctorate Plan, Roka Furadada's CEO, Judit Camargo, highlighted that industrial doctorate projects have become a 'key piece of its R&D department'. The company currently leads six Industrial Doctorate projects, a collaboration that has allowed the technical excellence of the university environment to be integrated directly into the professional cosmetics value chain.
This structure has facilitated the development of the patented ROKA Smart UV® technology, a new generation of intelligent photochemical precursors. These filters, known as “progressive”, are activated adaptively according to ultraviolet radiation, offering prolonged protection of up to eight hours and minimizing toxicity to marine ecosystems and human health.
The use of advanced computational simulations and research into bio-based materials, such as plant lignin, are examples of the scientific rigor that the doctoral students have brought to the company. This approach allows the environmental impact of components to be identified before and during their production, reducing waste and optimizing the use of raw materials.
Thanks to this robust technological base, Roka Furadada already has a presence in such demanding markets as South Korea, the United States and several European countries. The new funds will allow the company, formed mostly by doctors, to continue transforming environmental challenges into disruptive solutions from Catalonia for the whole world.
The milestone achieved by Roka Furadada exemplifies how the partnership between business and research, promoted by the Industrial Doctorates Plan, allows emerging technology-based companies to compete on a global scale with highly effective dermatological products and an ethical commitment to sustainability.
