The company Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, specialized in quantum computing, has signed an investment agreement with Avançsa , a public entity in charge of promoting the Catalan business ecosystem through public-private collaboration. The investment agreement valued at 1.5 million euros through the Innova Growth Line, with the aim of developing quantum computing technologies in Catalonia.
The company, born as a spin-off of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, the University of Barcelona and the Institute of High Energy Physics, has become a benchmark in the construction of the country's first commercial quantum computer. In addition, it was recognized as one of the Catalonia Exponential Leaders by ACCIÓ in 2021; by the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit as the best deep tech start-up in 2022, one of the five quantum computing start-ups to follow worldwide in 2022 by Startups Insight and this same year they won the 4YFN award as the best digital start-up in the world. The company focuses its strategies on four main verticals: Quantum as a Service (QaaS), Quantum Computing Installation, Consulting and Quantum ASIC. With more than 45 employees, Qilimanjaro has imminent plans to expand its team, thus strengthening its leadership in the deep tech and digital start-up sector.
Qilimanjaro stands out for its active participation in the Industrial Doctorates Plan of the Generalitat de Catalunya, with nine innovative projects that reinforce its commitment to the research and development of disruptive technologies. Qilimanjaro's projects in the Industrial Doctorates Plan include several areas of applied research. These projects focus on optimizing quantum algorithms, improving quantum connectivity, and developing new superconducting materials for quantum electronics. These initiatives not only promote scientific and technological knowledge, but also have a direct impact on the competitiveness of Catalonia in the global panorama of quantum computing.
This agreement will allow Qilimanjaro to continue expanding its technological capabilities, positioning Catalonia as a center of innovation in quantum computing.
