The RESI Europe 2024 Innovator's Pitch Challenge, held in Barcelona on 17 June, highlighted the talent of the BioRegion of Catalonia, with three start-ups from the Industrial Doctorates Plan taking the top spots.

The RESI Europe 2024 Innovator's Pitch Challenge, held in Barcelona on 17 June, is an opportunity for early-stage healthcare and life sciences companies to gain additional exposure to attendees at the RESI Europe 202 4conference, a valuable platform for innovation and collaboration. The winning company and the two finalists participate in the Industrial Doctorates Plan.

The event, organized by Life Science Nation in collaboration with Biocat, Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia, brought together 42 early-stage health and life sciences startups, with the notable participation of 23 Catalan companies.

Gate2Brain, a company with an industrial doctorate that we explained in an extensive report, has been the winner of the Innovator's Pitch Challenge Awards. This start-up company, which specialises in innovative therapies for paediatric cancer, attracted both the public and the jury with its innovative project. The second place has been for YSOTOPE Theranostics and the third for DyCare, both with several Industrial Doctorate projects.

The awards were presented by Dennis Ford (president of Life Science Nation), Jaume Baró Torres (executive director of Business and Entrepreneurship at Barcelona Activa) and Robert Fabregat Fuentes (CEO of Biocat).

During the event, Robert Fabregat from Biocat moderated a panel discussion on the key role of the advanced therapies ecosystem in Catalonia in innovation and clinical advances in ATMPs in Europe, with the participation of leading experts in the sector such as Fina Lladós Canela (Amgen), Silvia Martín Lluesma (VHIO), Antoni Matilla Dueñas (BIOINTAXIS), Luis Pareras (Invivo Partners) and Esteve Trias i Adroher (Leitat Technological Center).
