Project description
This PhD aims to develop products to improve drought monitoring and water resources management in a changing climate. The research will focus on the design and implementation of algorithms to derive root zone soil moisture and groundwater storage through the integration of remote sensing, in situ data and machine learning techniques.
These key products will enable the development of drought indicators and improve understanding of the relationship between groundwater storage, drought dynamics and human activities. The methodologies will be validated through real case studies to ensure their practical applicability.
In this PhD program, we propose to leverage Earth observation data and machine learning techniques to improve our understanding of subsurface water dynamics and its response to droughts. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Observatori de l'Ebre ā Universitat Ramon Llull and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
