Arròs Montsià, with two industrial doctorates, awarded at the Catalan Foodservice Night

Arròs Montsià has been awarded at the Catalan Foodservice Night for its innovative project of a reusable airtight lunch box made from rice husks, highlighting its commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Arròs Montsià was one of the protagonists in the recent Catalan Foodservice Night , held in Barcelona, standing out for its commitment to quality and innovation. The company has participated in the Industrial Doctorate Plan of the Generalitat de Catalunya with two completed research projects. One of the projects addressed the generation of new varieties of rice resistant to fungi to reduce the use of fungicides and improve the competitiveness of the rice sector, while the other focused on the improvement of Montsianell rice through anther cultivation to guarantee its continuity in the Ebro Delta.

Arròs Montsià collaborated with the University of Barcelona on these projects, which have had a significant impact on agricultural sustainability and innovation in the Ebro Delta. This collaboration not only promoted the search for new solutions but also reinforced the importance of scientific knowledge in the development of more efficient and environmentally friendly agricultural products.

The FoodService Night, organized by the FoodService Cluster (CFS) , celebrated its first edition last Thursday, July 4. This event, which commemorated the 10th anniversary of the cluster, took place at the Institute of Ocular Microsurgery (IMO) in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Barcelona, and brought together around 300 people from the food sector, including companies, research and innovation groups, and prominent public institutions.

The award for the best project in Research and Investigation was given to Cooperativa Arròs Montsià for its reusable airtight lunch box made of rice husk. This award recognizes projects with an advanced technological maturity level (TRL) that have demonstrated their viability and practical applicability in the food sector, especially valuing research efforts that contribute to improving efficiency, quality, sustainability or user experience.

Founded in 1927, the Montsià Rice Chamber is an agricultural cooperative that brings together more than 2,500 members dedicated to cultivating, processing and marketing rice under the protected designation of origin “Arròs del Delta de l'Ebre”. Montsià rice, grown exclusively in the Ebro Delta Natural Park, offers excellent qualities such as its pearly white color and an exceptional capacity to absorb flavors. Its mission is to offer the best quality rice and preserve the natural wealth of the Ebro Delta.
