AEInnova, with two industrial doctoral projects, wins the Barcelona Deep Tech Awards

The company derived from the UAB has been recognized at the Barcelona Deep Tech Awards and has promoted two Industrial Doctorate projects with the Autonomous University of Barcelona to create innovative solutions in heat recovery and autonomous IoT sensors for energy sustainability.

The company AEInnova , a spin-off of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), has been awarded the Best Deep Tech Start-up 2024 at the third edition of the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit . This recognition rewards its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of industries with high energy demand, an objective that the company pursues not only with disruptive technology but also with cutting-edge research.

AEInnova collaborates with the Autonomous University of Barcelona on two Industrial Doctorate projects that promote energy sustainability and industrial efficiency through cutting-edge technologies. The first project creates an Internet of Things (IoT) platform capable of using waste heat as an energy source to power a network of sensors and actuators that operate safely and autonomously, without batteries. This platform reduces safety risks and improves sustainability, as it avoids the use of conventional energy sources. The second project focuses on a heat recovery system based on thermoelectric cells that, thanks to the maximum performance technology inspired by solar panels, manages to optimize energy efficiency in a wide range of industrial temperatures. These projects exemplify AEInnova's desire to reduce the environmental impact of industries with high energy demand through innovative solutions.

The Barcelona Deep Tech Awards , held as part of the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit (BDTS) within the Smart City Expo World Congress, brought together more than 70 speakers and 47 start-ups specialized in advanced technologies to address social and environmental challenges. This event, promoted by the Barcelona City Council and several Catalan universities, stands out for its ability to bring together the deep tech sector, highlighting solutions in biomedicine, advanced materials, energy transition and other sectors. According to Jordi Valls , Deputy Mayor of Barcelona, the BDTS contributes to creating a high added value economy, favoring public-private partnerships to accelerate the transfer of technological knowledge to society.

AEInnova: Innovation in Autonomous Sensors and Energy Efficiency

Founded in 2014 by researchers and engineers from the UAB, AEInnova is a European benchmark in the innovation of autonomous IoT sensors for industrial applications. Its mission is to develop thermoelectric energy generation systems for the recovery of waste heat in industry, with the aim of improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. With more than 30 international awards, including recognition from the United Nations, AEInnova combines innovation and social commitment, working to create sustainable solutions that contribute to a fairer and greener industrial model.

AEInnova is an internationally recognized company with more than 30 awards, including recognition from the United Nations for its role in the fight against climate change. Thanks to initiatives such as the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit , AEInnova not only gains visibility but also strengthens its network of collaborators, including strategic partners such as the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and Mobile World Capital Barcelona .

In this third edition of the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit, which welcomed more than 2,500 participants and 70 experts in emerging technologies, innovative solutions were presented to address challenges in sectors such as biomedicine, energy transition and spatial data capture. Catalonia, as the first hub in Europe in financing Deep Tech start-ups, is a growth space for companies like AEInnova, which make a difference in strategic sectors such as energy and sustainability.

AEInnova's commitment to technological innovation and sustainability is consolidated with the two Industrial Doctorate projects that it promotes in collaboration with the UAB. These projects not only promote the evolution of energy recovery and security technologies in IoT networks, but also lay the foundations for a future where industry is more ecological, efficient and connected.

International recognition and collaboration with leading universities and institutions position AEInnova as a key player in the Deep Tech ecosystem and in the transition towards a more sustainable energy model.
