Presentation on the opportunities offered by the Industrial Doctorates Plan for strengthening relations between universities and businesses

The UAB Research Park and the UAB Doctoral School organised an information session on 12 April on the Industrial Doctorates Plan promoted by the Government of Catalonia. The session gave companies the opportunity to find out in more detail about the advantages of taking part in this project and hear about some successful cases.

Dr Pilar Dellunde, Vice Rector for Research, gave a presentation on how this plan has been implemented at the UAB since its launch in 2013. The UAB, together with the UPC, is the university with the greatest number of cutting-edge research projects aimed at helping scientists completing their research training to gain a foothold in R&D&I in the Catalan business world.

Then Jordi Alba Granados, the project manager for the Plan at the Government of Catalonia's Secretariat for Universities and Research, presented the new features incorporated in the fourth Industrial Doctorates Plan to boost new areas of research.

A round table was held as part of the session, with representatives of participating companies, doctorands and thesis tutors. It was moderated by Dr Xavier Gabarrell, Academic Secretary of the UAB Doctoral School. The aim was to meet some of the current participants in the programme and hear about their experiences, thereby encouraging new doctorands and companies to join the scheme. The participants were Joaquim Segalès, director of CreSA and tutor of industrial doctorands; Cristina Monfort, doctorand at the company Afinitica; and Albert Comas, CEO of Morenot.

The session closed with a networking activity giving companies and researchers the opportunity to explore potential partnerships.
